Man, there's nothing like an acoustic set for worship! Thanks to Jeremiah and the team for some amazing worship yesterday! I thought the entire service was great - here are a few highlights:

  • We talked about the greatest roadblock to spiritual growth.  Here it is: It is easier to CONFORM that it is to TRANSFORM.
  • We conform the PROCESS of spiritual growth to the way the world thinks.
    • We drive for worldly success instead of spiritual growth.
    • Our process becomes dictated by achievement, advancement, and consumerism
  • We conform the GOAL of spiritual growth to the way the world thinks.
    • Our process of achievements leads to a competitive spirit.
    • We begin to compare ourselves to everyone else.
    • Our goal becomes to be better than or like everyone else.
  • We conform the FOCUS of spiritual growth to the way the world thinks.
    • When our process is achievement and consumer driven and our goal is to be like or better than everyone else, our focus becomes us.
    • What can I do to fix it. What can I do to get better. How can I change.
    • We shift the focus of spiritual growth away from God and His work to us and our work.
  • We conform the RESULT of spiritual growth to the way the world thinks.
    • Our spiritual growth produces religion, not a relationship with Christ.
    • We end up empty, tired, frustrated, and guilty instead of inspired, challenged, renewed, and transformed.
  • The key to overcoming this roadblock is to SURRENDER, not to be SUCCESSFUL.
  • "Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy offer your bodies as a LIVING sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.  This is your spiritual act of worship. Do not CONFORM any longer to the patterns of this world but be TRANSFORMED by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and  approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing, and perfect will." - Romans 12:1,2
  • Surrender means living IN Jesus, not just living FOR Him!
  • Oh yeah, one other thing ... "Praisallujah!"

Next Sunday we take a look at what healthy spiritual growth is all about.  I'll give you a hint - it has a lot to do with the Holy Spirit!
